Don't stick your head out...

2006 Reader Submission
Pending Acceptance

Sticking your head out of a sun roof can be a nice thing do to if you need the view and to want to have a tan.

However, if you're in a tunnel, you don't get neither, and thus you should keep your noggin' inside the vehicle.

Especially if there are three warning sides about an impending reduction of the clearance before the height drops to about 13 ft 6 in, and the height of the vehicle is 12 ft 10 in.

The bad thing is these person already proceeded to met out their genes, which will not avoid road service to repaint some tunnel walls in future.

Definitely Keep: Darwin Award
Thanks, Rene! I got a laugh out of this one. A bunch of folks off to an anti-war protest in a "spliced n' diced" school bus with a "sun-roof". Not one but TWO people died , and to put the cherry on the cake, the family of one of the victims had the audacity to sue the City of San Fransisco rather than just own the stupidity of their departed kinfolk. As an aside, it also makes me wonder if the protesters are any smarter than the policymakers they are railing against!

Thanks for the story, Rene. This one just didn't do it for me. Maybe I've read one too many in the past of the same thing happening. While it fulfills the criteria, there's something about it that lacks that magic of a DA.

It looks like in 2004 a similar incident earned a double Darwin Award. As two people were died here as well, this could be a repeat. I appreciate the concern about this being too common, but I don't know tunnel decapitations have been overdone here yet, and personally I do see this as pretty spectacular.
