Tulsa Home Invasion Turns Fatal KOTV - 8/18/2006 6:19 AM - Updated: 8/18/2006 10:27 AM Tulsa Police have released the name of the home invasion suspect who fatally shot himself.

A couple called police to their home in the 3300 block of East King Street just before 6 PM Thursday. They told officers a man broke in, then accidentally shot himself. The man has been identified as Paul O'Farrell.

Neighbors were surprised at what happened. Deloris Morris: "And he went to shoot the gun at Jeff and somehow the burglar stumbled and fell on his own gun and killed his and happened to die. You know just killed his self, you know not self suicide, but just one of those freak accidents."

The couple in the home was not hurt, but was taken in for questioning.

Neutral: For Darwin's Eyes
New information on this breaking story. There is nothing spectacular about a crook merely killing himself (too common), but doing so in the presence of his intended victims and AFTER taking aim is just a BIT funny! Assuming the neighbor's testimony is accurate, this might be amusing enough to include dsespite it's being too common! Thanks for the additional info, Cheri!

I believe this is my first encounter with the tale, and I'm willing to see where it goes. Gun mishaps are too common and bothced crime stories are sometimes inappropriate here, but the way the two come together in this one instance could just be the Reese's Peanut Butter Cup of stupidity with crime and guns. I'll join James in passing this up the chain.

Thanks for the story, Cheri. Darwin needs to see this as it adds a bit more info to the story.

One has to wonder about 'Divine Intervention' here. What are the odds that something like this could happen? I bet the victim now firmly believes in Guardian Angels!
