A Little Iron in the Diet

2006 Reader Submission
Pending Acceptance

An unnamed Serbian man seems to have taken the idea of iron in the diet to a new level. Surgeons who recently operated on the man removed a number of objects from his stomach, including eight nails, a knife, a pen, a screw, a spoon, a clothes-peg and other smaller objects. Alas, there was no permanent damage so our hero only qualifies for an honorable mention, at least until his next big meal.

Definitely Keep: Honorable Mention
Thanks again, Bruce (you DO seem to find 'em! :-) ) Anyway, when I was a kid I swallowed a very small iron magnet and thought I was going to die. I'll wager this fellow probably did the same and decided it tasted good. He obviously graduated to larger and more dangerous objects! Either that, or he's plain crackers. Either way, between the knife and screw alone he should have been dead of severe internal bleeding! I'll vote HM!

I agree with all James's comments. This bizarre tale could have led to a Darwin Award, and the more fortunate ending still merits an Honorable Mention in my estimation.
