Victim of a broken heart

2006 Reader Submission
Pending Acceptance

Lady Darwin,

I was reading the 3rd installment of the Darwin Awards and I came across the lady complaining abut the story of Ana and how it was too close to home when it reminded me of a story involving a family members and her ex husband.

I can't remember the husbands name, she went through several husbands in her life, and my parents are on vacation so I can't search for the obituary but if you need it let me know and when they get back in town I will look for it.

This will be a little long winded but I figure you will edit it as you see fit if you decide to use it. It took place in Charlotte, North Carolina, I would prefer if you use the story you leave the city name out. I doubt any of my relatives would read this and if they did I doubt they would care but I do not know the deceased family so I am not sure how they would react to reading about there father or sons demise.

I had a cousin who passed away a few years ago who had several husbands in her 60 or so years and this particular one ended in Darwinian tragedy.

Her and this particular husband had been married several years when she decided to call it quits, as she usually did with all her husbands, this one however took it very hard and decided as revenge for his broken heart he was going to burn the house down. He broke into the house and proceeded to dowse everything in gas, he then sat the gas can in the floor, and according to the arson report, kneeled down to light the gas can, an error in judgement no doubt brought about by his mental state at the time. As one would expect the gas can blew up in his face, and although he succeeded in burning the house down he also perished in the ensuing blaze.

As I stated earlier if you need a news paper article to back this up I can probably dig one up but it has been several years ago so the name of the late ex-husband eludes me at the moment. Also if you have any further questions please don’t hesitate to ask. I have spent the last 3 books laughing at others tragedy I figure it is high time I submitted some of my own for others to laugh at.

Please use only the initials JM on the website.

Regards, Joie Miller

As this is addressed to Darwin, I will pass it on to her. (BTW "JM", if you seek anonymity, e-mail Darwin. All else gets seen by J.Q. Publick!) As far as the story, it could be argued that the oft-married and cold-hearted cousin drove the poor man to madness, but she may have left him because he WAS stupid. What say, Darwin?

Right, she should get a look at this whether or not it justifies follow-up work. For my own part, I don't know that we need draw lines between temporary bouts with extreme stupidity or lifelong predispositions toward it. If the story goes as related above, surely one or the other was present.
