The following is a personal account. If the biker in question had died, there would be a media reference.

Behind my building, there's an alley, on the other side of which is a shopping center. Usually, every morning trucks stop by to drop off goods for the center.

The bike room in my building is in the back, so every morning I get out my bike and carefully ride down the alley to the street.

Today, a truck had pulled onto an offshoot of the alley, and a 1-man forklift (close to the size of the alley, it would clearly have to back up all the way to the wall and then turn) was taking goods out of it (I think pallets of water bottles or something). The forklift had its back to the alley. Of the two unloaders, one was working the forklift, the other making sure the pallets lay straight. As I approached, the second man raised his hand to halt me.

Then he turned and went back into the truck, and the forklift began to back up. Just then, another biker biked past me, saw the forklift backing up, and decided he could make it past. I tried to warn him but he was moving too fast.

Well, he made it past, but the bike didn't. The forklift caught his back wheel, bending it out of shape and pinning him to the wall. Another foot backward and that would have been him.

Needless to say, he was late to class. At least he wasn't permanently absent.

If you're going to play chicken with heavy machinery, make sure you win.

I'll bite. any fool who isn't aware of the "Law of Gross Tonnage" (if it is bigger than you/your vehicle, get out of its way!) deserves to learn the hard way. What makes it all the more keepable is the fact that you tried to warn him. Keep an eye on this jamoke, he may make the headlines yet! Thanks for the submission, JB!

He'll probably buy a motorbike when he's older and finish himself off! Thanks.
