Parasailing for dummies

2006 Reader Submission
Pending Acceptance

We had two friends back in College that were famous for doing stupid things. Things like dueling with 50,000 volt stun guns or dueling with Shambocks (flexible riot sticks). One day they were at a mutual friends duck camp. This friend had a lot of military surplus gear around and our friends found a army cargo chute in good condition. After seeing people parasailing behind boats they defided to attemp the same thing but with a jeep in a empty field. Now cargoe chutes have no steering gear as do parasials. (crates of supplies have no arms) So they would have no way to steer once they got airborne. Friend #1 decided to attempt the feat first and tied himself off to the jeep. He actuall made it about 10 feet in the air when the chute swung him around in a huge arc and slammed him into the ground. The chute still had air in it and lifetd him up and slammed him again. This time friend B stops the jeep and runs to check on out skydiver who amazingly enough had only superficial bruise and scrapes. This in itself is not quite as amazing as what friend #2 then said.

"Ok, now you drive and it is my turn!!"

The jeep and chute were quickly confiscated to avoid any permanent damage.

And yes Budweiser did help in their decision making process.

Were YOU the one who "consfiscated" the jeep? If so, BRAVO, you kept two mooks alive and they may yet breed! :-) I rather liked this one, especially considering we already have a parasailing story in the slush pile...and the fellow in THAT story used a real parasail! The keeper line is "OK, now YOU drive, it's MY turn"! Thanks for the submission, Tom, I got a good chuckle out of it!

Good story, Tom.

I kinda like this - and I think it is definitely dangerous enough, since we have bone fide DA submissions describing similar, yet fatal, incidents!

I have to agree 100% with James. "it's MY turn!" -- priceless.
