OK, so it's only an honorable mention, but I am certain that we'll see these two Mensa candidates winning awards eventually.

I pulled in to a local gas station to fill up the family car and noticed that the woman at the pump ahead of me had her hood up. I figured she was checking her oil or something benign like that, but moments later I heard her asking the guy on the toher side of her pump if he would mind giving her a jump start, as her battery was dead.

Now I have jump started many cars in my life, and have rarely if ever managed to hook up the cables without seeing a spark. I've also seen a couple of videos and heard personal accounts of fumes igniting at gas stations.

When the guy agreed and got in his car to pull it around to where hers was, I simply had to intervene. My own self preservation instinct overcame my desire to allow the gene pool to be improved on this particular evening. However, when I offered to push her car across the street, she looked at me aas if I'd lost my mind? Why wouldn't you want sparks next to a gas pump after all. I did insist and eventually she allowed me to, but next time I think I'll just drive away realy fast.

What really got me was not just that she was asking someone to jump start her car next to a gas pump, but that she was able to find someone reckless or witless enough to oblige. From the volume of honorable mentions on your site that take place around gas stations, it's nothing short of a miracle that more actual awards are not won there.

Don't you just HATE it when arrogant people insist that you don't know what you are about when you are endeavoring to save their pitiful lives?! :-) You are a saint for having persisted in offering to help this woman. BTW, I fully concur with your last two paragraphs...next time, do please drive away fast! :-)
