Pop goes the Megan!

Megan Fri, 44 years old, of Scotland was killed by 14 state troopers after she wandered onto a live firing, fake town simulation. Seeing the troopers all walking slow down the street, Megan jumped out in front of them and yelled, "Boo!" The troopers, thinking she was a pop up target, fired 67 shots between them, over 40 of them hitting their target. "She just looked like a very real looking target," one of the troopers stated in his report.

If true, this would be a keeper, but my sacred duties as a moderator compl me to ascertain the veracity of a story. The only reference to this incident I found appeared verbatim on several "bizarre death" BBS's; there was NO news link given on ANY of them. It reminds me of the "fake" Darwin Awards lists from the past. I cannot take something like this at face value without a link, and I have to presume it may be a fabrication, so unless my fellow mods feel differently, I'm voting to toss...

We first got this in '02 ("Moving Target-Not!") and again in '03 ("Target Practice"), and the views were mixed. A quick search of Scopes failed to turn it up, but a quick google indicates that it seems to be a joke, (e.g. an Urban Legend) and so I'll vote to keep it as an U.L.
