Some dreams deserve to die

2005 Reader Submission
Pending Acceptance

Andrew was 24, and dreamed of getting on "Fear Factor." That dream led to his death.

Thanksgiving weekend, Andrew went to visit some high-school buddies. Saturday morning, after a night of drinking with his buddies, Andrew decided to visit a friend in the building next door. Both buildings were typical Boston triple-deckers: 3 stories high and close together. The gap between them was about 20 feet wide.

One problem- the building was locked. So Andrew called his friend. Friend didn't pick up, so Andrew left a message, "I'm up on the roof. I'm about to make this incredible jump, but I don't know if I can make it."

A passerby found Andrew's body around noon, on the ground, between the buildings. His watch was on the roof of the building next door. The rubber at the roof's edge had scratch marks, presumably from human fingers.

Boston is a city full of students, but the best education in the world can't buy common sense.

MUCH more information and a MUCH better write-up concerning this unfolding incident! NOW I am seeing Darwinian stupidity! This invincible lad obviously didn't listen to the ever-receding voice of reason inside of him: "...and I might not make it". He WAS aware of the danger, but he just did it anyway. Funny what superior journalism can achieve (the other two articles were LAME and without sufficient info). I think this one's a keeper! Thanks, Lady G!

Neutral: Darwin Award
Great write-up. I'm still not TOTALLY convinced of the excellence of the incident, but I have no rational objections - just a slightly disatisfied feeling - so I'll let it slide as neutral.

I agree with James in all particulars. The write-up makes this a keeper! "And now we know the rest of the story..."
