b.a.s.e. jumping boo boo

2005 Reader Submission
Pending Acceptance

John Agnos, a 41 year old b.a.s.e. jumper from Hayward, CA was stuck 200 feet above the ground when the jump went wrong and he got tangled in the guy wires stabilizing the 1800 foot tv tower he jumped from. Agnos, an "experienced", but not-overly-intelligent jumper was hanging for approximately 5 hours while rescuers decided the best course of rescue. This comes 11 days after rescuers from colorado springs had to resuce him after he fell attempting another jump. One year before, he was injured during a jump from a Las Vegas casino, which led to several injuries. The rescue agencies and county officials are going to assess the costs of the rescue, including the salaries of rescue personnel involved. He will also be charged with a misdemeanor. see links:

While the write-up could be a bit funnier, I appreciate the fact that you reminded us that this "experienced" jumper failed on at least two other occasions, sustaining injuries both times. If this were his only mshap, I'd dismiss it as an "extreme sports mishap", but this fellow seems determined! And while I'm not exactly gung-ho about this guy, the fact that he has been perseverant in his attempts to remove himself from the gene pool compel me to at least consider him for an honorable mention!

I would have tossed this as just another example of an extreme sport stunt gone wrong, but as James pointed out, this isn't the first time that Agnos has crashed. And I'll gladlyu give him credit for his repeated attempts to jump out of the gene pool (so to speak...)

Maybe Toss: Repeat
I've already graded a better write-up of this I think ... earlier today.

I think the guy deserves an award for trying to remove himself from the gene pool - maybe a DA of the future - ps, the link doesn't work!

Having done a search on the net, I found some of the other stories mentioned. While this guy should quit while he's ahead, I doubt he will. However, I'd like more information about the previous jumps that have failed.
