Unlucky Bed

2005 Reader Submission
Pending Acceptance

This is a story thought by some to be an urban legend, but that may very well be true. In a South African Hospital, doctors were shocked to see a patient in the same bed dead every Friday for four weeks. A bacteria check failed to find anything, thus adding to the puzzlement. Eventually, the doctors decided to plant a camera in the room and discovered the reason- every Friday, the maid came in, unplugged the patient's life support system quite unaware of what it was, plugged in her floor waxer, waxed the floor, unplugged it, and plugged in the life support system, unaware that the patient was now dead.

Definitely Keep: Urban Legend
This is one of my favorite urban legends as well. Unfortunately it isn't true. See the following at snopes.com: http://www.snopes.com/horrors/freakish/cleaner.htm

Definitely Toss: No Self-Selection
But even if it was true, the victims were the patients who died because of the actions of the maid. So, urban legend or not, it should still adhere to our guidelines. And we're not in competition with Snopes. But thanks for the submission, Bob.
