AND THE TIDE CAME IN!

2005 Reader Submission
Pending Acceptance

A Houston man did the fishing community a favor by removing himself from the gene pool in a creative, if certain, manner.

John Raymond Wilson, age 37, had been surf fishing. It appears he parked his truck on the beach (a little before LOW tide!) and fished for some time, then for some reason, got under his truck to lay down!

Well, the tide came in! It sank the truck, apparently trapping him under the truck and drowning him! He was found when a tow truck was called to remove the truck from the surf (HIGH tide now!).

The Sheriff's department said "There is nothing to indicate foul play." No, only stupidity!

Beach visitor found dead under sunken pickup By KEVIN MORAN News Services

CRYSTAL BEACH - A Houston man died after he apparently fell asleep beneath his pickup on the beach and the truck trapped him as it settled in the sand, the Galveston County Sheriff's Department reported.

John Raymond Wilson, 37, of the 2000 block of Fenwick, had been surf fishing near Voit on Monday night, sheriff's Lt. Tommy Hansen said. "It appears he may have been fishing, that he got under the truck to lay down, and it sank and got on top of him and he couldn't get out," Hansen said. Witnesses pegged Wilson's arrival at the scene about 9 p.m. Monday, about 90 minutes before low tide under a full moon, according to National Weather Service data. Hansen said Wilson's truck was spotted in the surf early Tuesday after the high tide. Wilson's body was discovered by a tow-truck driver called to pull the truck out of the surf after passers-by reported it, Hansen said. "They discovered before they could even move the vehicle a foot or so that there was a body under it," Hansen said. "There is nothing to indicate foul play." An autopsy was to be performed to determine the Wilson's exact cause of death, Hansen said.

Definitely Keep: Darwin Award
Arrogant stupidity at it's best! dumb enough to park the truck on the beach at low tide, but to take a nap under it is truly DA material.
