Stupid Shoplifter

A Phenix City man was found in the Chattahoochee River on April 29, 2005. The man shoplifted meat from the local Piggly Wiggly. During the police chase, the man jumped off the 13th Street Bridge with the meat in his pants. His body was found down river with the meat still inside his pants. Relatives believe that he was going to trade the meat for drugs. The man had been jailed prior to this, on April 13, 2005 before taking his own life in the dangerous river.

ok this is the third story in a row of a criminal jumping into the chattahoochee river. Either this is the same story being retold several different ways or that river is a criminal magnet.

I've only seen two stories - the first was a roller blading bank robber and this concerns a shoplifter - but I think that I'm going to need to see some verifiable information about this Phenix City crime wave before accepting any of them!
