Pull Over In The Fog

2005 Reader Submission
Pending Acceptance

At best, this is an honorable mention.

My dad tells me that, years ago, he was driving through fog so thick that he couldn't see the front of his car. So, what does he do? He drives down the highway with the driver's door open, following the yellow line. This is instead of pulling over, shutting everything off, and getting his person well off the road until the fog cleared.

If he had been in an accident, I don't think I'd be here today, as I think it was before I was even concieved.

Dad, if you read this, you know who you are and you can submit more details and corrections... Before you kill me.

I suppose he didn't think of rolling the window down.

Even with the window rolled down: with his eyes on the line, how could he tell what was ahead of him? There are times that driving just isn't safe. That said... this sort of thing is rather a bit too common.

I have to disagree. It's common for people to drive in a thick fog. It's not all that common for people to drive with the door open looking at the ground in a thick fog. I think this qualifies as a personal account.

I agree with Kelly. I think that the last time we had a similar submission involved a traffic accident in a dust storm in the Australia outback.

I've driven in fog like this - but not with the door open, staring at the ground!
