EFE The Universal online Hanoi Wednesday on March 09, 2005 06:37 A 21-year-old man died in Hanoi when exploded a detonator that introduced in his mouth, after assuring his friends that the instrument would not explode, police sources indicated today. The victim, Nguyen Van Hao, died on Monday on having tried to demonstrate to his friends that the detonator was innocuous due to it's antiquity.

" After being drinking with five of his friends in his house, Hao began discussing with one of them after other one was showing a small detonator that he had bought ", demonstrated Nguyen Van Ngu, of the police station of the district of the capital of Your Liem, where the incident took place " Hao assured that the detonator, of approximately six centimeters of length and 80 millimeters of diameter, might not explode due to it's appearance, old and rusty ", added the agent.

" To demonstrate that it would not explode, Hao got the detonator into the mouth and asked one of his friends to connect the terminals to a socket ", made clear Ngu, which added that Hao died soon after being taken to a hospital after the explosion.

More info on this story. I still think attaching 220v50hz ac to anything in one's mouth is worthy, and the detonator makes it better.

I have to agree with Daniel. Though as the title suggests it may have been done on a bet, that is not mentioned in the story; I don't see that as a disqualifying feature. Nor do I see alcohol as being a disqualifier.
