Edmonton - A 45-year-old man was killed Thursday night while crossing Whyte Avenue, when he was run over by a semi.

Police say the tractor trailer drove over the man, who appeared to be intoxicated, as he crossed near 104th Street. He wasn't at a crosswalk. Witnesses say the man tried to take a short-cut underneath the truck, which was stopped at a light, stumbled and was crushed when the truck began to move. The accident happened just before 9 p.m.

The driver didn't initially realize he'd hit the man.

This just does not do it for me - a drunk jaywalker getting killed is too common and that he ducked under a truck just does not up the ante enough for me.

Drunk jaywalker getting run over- Sounds too common. The English vacationer was doing a stunt of trying to lay on the ground and have the wheels go around him- equaly drunk, but much more of a "poor judgment" episode.

And there was the Englishman last week who, similarly intoxicated, took an almost identical shortcut beneath a Greek garbage truck, with almost identical results. Maybe we can combine the two into a single story? Let the readers decide...
