A Harford County waitress was struck and killed by an automobile Saturday night after lying in traffic on Coastal Highway in Ocean City during an argument with her husband, resort police said.

Phyllis J. Lindsey, 49, of Fallston was walking with her husband, Brian Roden, to their condominium when they began arguing about 10:15 p.m.

Lindsey reportedly threw her purse onto the sidewalk and walked into the street, lying in a traffic lane, police said, adding that her husband tried to coax her back as cars swerved around her.

A southbound Saturn sedan driven by a 78-year-old Fenwick Island man struck Lindsey, who was pronounced dead at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin -- the resort's first pedestrian fatality in two years, police said.

Police said Roden reported that his wife had consumed a large quantity of alcohol.

The family had planned to return home yesterday, said Pam Tsimon, a friend who had spent the first part of the week with them at Ocean City.

Tsimon said she and Lindsey, a waitress at the Milton Inn in Sparks, were members of "the Queens" -- a group of women who used to work at Chiapparelli's restaurant in Towson years ago.

The members commemorated their relationship every year with an overnight sleepover and a mother-daughter breakfast, which Lindsey was helping to organize this year, Tsimon said.

Friends remembered yesterday Lindsey's willingness to help those in need and her dedication to her 11-year-old son, Garrett Roden. She served as den mother for his Cub Scout troop and took him to sports practices and fishing, said Lisa Schaefer, a friend from Perry Hall.

Doesn't sound like suicide to me: just an impulsive drunk.

Definitely Toss: Other
It sounds like suicide to me, which disqualifies it. An impulsive suicide, but nonetheless suicide.

Drunken stupidity is too common, but this is an unusual way to express your dissatisfaction with your husband... Let the viewers rate it?
