The young woman's body found in the Mississippi River near downtown St. Paul on Tuesday night has been positively identified as Annie K. Nelson of Minneapolis, the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's office said Wednesday.
Nelson and her friend, Stephanie Sibet, both 18, had gone to St. Paul on Saturday to look at old buildings. When they found a large piece of foam at a construction site, they decided to raft the river. The raft tore apart after it hit a barge moored in the river, and Sibet swam to shore to call for help. Nelson was pulled under by the rushing current.
A boater discovered Nelson's body near Pig's Eye Island about 7 p.m. Tuesday.
