Bullet Proof Glass

2003 Reader Submission
Pending Acceptance

While getting gas at an AM/PM market I noticed that the "bullet proof glass" (3" thick lexan) had a nice splatter pattern from a shotgun. The attendant told me that a robber had tried to holdup the night clerk while the clerk was locked in the "box" behind the lexan/steel walls/door/etc. The clerk told the robber to "go for it". So the robber pointed the shotgun directly at the clerk behind the lexan glass wall and fired. The gun was precisely horizontal to the floor and the robber was facing the lexan wall straight on. The shotgun pellets impacted the "bullet proof" lexan and bounce back directly into the face of the robber. The clerk calmly reported the attempted robbery to the police, oh and bring an ambulance. The shot barely dented the lexan - maybe 1/4".

Agree with Dan here. Yeah, take a shotgun (which is pretty low-powered as projectile penetration goes) and shoot straight at a bulletproof surface? Very smart.

Stupid crook stories ARE repeated too often, but this is a new one on me... deffinately seems original anyway..

While I normally don't like "dumb crook" submissions, this one made me grin. Nice writeup, Brian.
