PIKE CREEK VALLEY, Del. -- Authorities say a Pike Creek Valley man learned a painful lesson about the safe disposal of gunpowder.
The 38-year-old man wanted to get rid of some old gunpowder, so he threw it into his fireplace.
New Castle County Paramedic spokeswoman Kelli Starr-Leach said the gunpowder flashed on the man, giving him first- and second-degree burns on his head and arms.
He's listed in stable condition at Christiana Hospital.
Units from the Mill Creek Fire Company were checking the house on Sassafras Court for fire damage.
