Falling in...the blowhole?

I posted an earlier story about a young couple who, whilst making love near the Kiama Blowhole, fell into it and one died ('Love and Death at Blowhole'). CORRECTION: they survived! And here's a copy of the article (copy and paste into browser window):

It's not the story from the Sydney Morning Herald's website, but their archive search isn't working (as of 11:30am Sydney Time, 7/5/2003) so here's the next best thing.
Let's try this again:
A 16 year old girl was seriously injured after falling 15m down a cliff near the famous Kiama Blowhole, about 2 hours south of Sydney.
Okay, so she ignored the warning signs and fences, even while sober. But here's the catch: she was making love with her boyfriend at around 2am when the accident occurred, and he fell on top of her, exacerbating her spinal injuries. I suspect vigorous motion may have been a cause? She was expected to recover, but as a quadriplegic. Credit must be given to her comanion, who clawed his way up the cliff with a broken ankle. The girl eventually had to be winched up by a helicopter in a rescue involving police and the State Emergency Service.
The blowhole has a history of human deaths. The narrow, deep hole has been cursed by the local Afghan community, after seven members died there after being swept off the cliff by a wave. It is also a popular suicide spot.
However, for their attempt to eliminate themselves from the gene pool, even while practicing to expand it, I hereby submit the two lovers for a double Honourable Mention.
And apologies for the stuff-up! Submitted on 05/07/2003
