ilitary Intelligence

Back in the late 70's there was an Intelligence unit in Northern Ireland. Units were issued with exploding briefcases to carry sensitive documents. These were a normal briefcase lined with Oxygen bricks. When they were armed and you opened the case itburned almost instantly and destroyed the case and everything else within a metre radius.
I wont embarress the unit or the blond female lance corporal involved(had to get that one in).
What happend was
To arm the case there was a small pin next to the handle.
Take this out, open the case and all hell is let loose.
As there is a half second delay before the case starts to burn, when you try to open it the lid stops on a spring catch.
To open the case safely, therefore, the sequence is
1. Make sure the arming pin is in place
2. open the case
3. Using a small thin object, eg a ruler, push in the spring catch.
4. The case will now open
In this particular case the sequence went as follows
1. Make sure the arming pin is in place
2. Open the case
3. Look for a small thin object to push back the catch
4. None immediately available
5. Oh look. The arming pin is a small thin object, lets use that
6. Kiss goodbye to one Intelligence unit.
Names are available to those who wish to verify this one!!
