Russian Lion Tamer

A 41 year old Russian lion tamer was attacked and killed by his animals yesterday, after leaving the cage door open during a vodka drinking session.
He realised he had left the latch on the cage open when he returned to his trailer to fetch another bottle of vodka; his subsequent attempts to raise the alarm and round up the animals failed as the animals turned on him.
His assistant, who had also been drinking, called emergency services but as a result of a misunderstanding, police sent armed officers to the Moscow Central Zoo instead of the sports stadium where the lions were performing as part of a travelling circus.
When they finally arrived on the scene, police opened fire on a lion as it devoured the dead trainer. A second lion, nearby, was also shot and killed. Submitted on 04/28/2003
