Driving and Dancing don't mix!

2003 Reader Submission
Pending Acceptance

On the island of Providenciales, in the Turks & Caicos Islands, during a celebration of "Provo Days", (similar the the Bahamas Junkanoo)a young man was driving a tractor trailer, pulling a float full of revellers. The driver put the tractor in "bull low" gear, so the truck would creep slowly along without his foot on the gas and got out to dance beside the truck on the parade route. He was so caught up in the music and the carnival spirit, that he danced himself between the fuel tank and the tandem rear axel of the tractor. As he took a misstep in his dance, he fell under the tandem drive wheels and was slowly crushed to death as the truck idled forward. Apparently no one noticed until the vehicle had completely passed over him.

This is verifyable by the Turks & Caicos Weekly News (649)946-4664 or the Free Press (649) 941-5615

I disagree with Gregory on this one: he was the driver, and so responsible for safety on his vehicle. If it had been anyone else, it would be "bystander's hurt". I agree more with Bert.

Let the viewers rate it- "Run over by own vehicle" is getting to be awful common.

Oh, I don't know - alcohol and partying have always been traditional methods of cleaning out the shallow end of the gene pool.

Maybe Toss: No Self-Selection
the fact that he was the driver is somewhat irrelevant to his demise: anyone else dancing near the float could have been similarly killed. I thus chalk this up to an accident.
