Escape bid kills inmate in DeKalb
An inmate at the DeKalb County Jail died after falling 80 feet during an escape attempt, the sheriff's office reported Saturday.
Stephon R. McClendon, 34, of Atlanta was being held at the jail on charges of felony murder, aggravated assault and probation violation.
cClendon was housed on the eighth floor. He apparently climbed through an air-conditioning vent leading to the outside of the building about 4 a.m.
Jail spokeswoman Mikki Jones said he apparently intended to drop to lower levels using bedsheets tied to his body.
cClendon kicked out a metal air vent in order to escape, and a jail employee heard it strike the ground.
While investigating the noise, a jailer heard a faint call for help from McClendon, who was immobilized after his fall.
cClendon was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he died of his injuries 11 hours later.
"He did not survive surgery," Jones said.
cClendon was charged in the slaying of Pellonicia Hough, 24, who was found with stab wounds to the neck March 16 in a house on Memorial Drive she shared with McClendon and Alvin Graham, her brother.
Graham discovered her in her bedroom when he returned home from work.
This looks like the sort of URL that changes daily, but the above article was at:

Also on Local news last night.
I would guess that the darwin part is trusting bed sheets to hold your weight.
I just did a search, and this is very similar to "Escaping Conviction" from 1997.
