College and Gas

This one is more of an honorable mention, but it is a fun tale none the less.
In 1994, I was living in a small town in SE Arizona named Safford. There is the Eastern Arizona College there that has about a medium sized student body. To the west of town, there is a small plateau about 100 or so feet tall known locally as Red Knolls. Red Knolls has a sandstone base with a granite cap on the top that is about a foot or two thick, with several cracks and holes leading deaper into the plateau. The whole plateau is riddled with tunnels and caves that are carved out because of water. If you have seen sandstone, then you know what I mean.
Well, the story is of two students at the college decided one day to go out to Red Knolls. They got onto to the top of the plateau and decided for some unknown reason to pour a gallon or two of gas down through one of the cracks in the granite, and then toss down a lit match. The resulting explosion proceeded to widen the whole in the granite and cause a collapse of the area. I remember that one of the students had fallen in, and was trapped for about 20 hours or so while they called in several mine rescue teams from around the state and at least one from Neveada. He had some pretty good injuries, but not enough to remove him from the gene pool, so still worth an honorable mention. His parter escaped with minor injuries (mostly burns) if I recall right.
