(Quote)" The judge, prosecutor, and even the defendant's attorney said the circumstances that led to the murder of Andrea Daniels rank as among the most bizarre they have encountered.
s. Daniels, of 24 Batavia St., was shot because she wanted to make a robbery appear legitimate. But instead of getting a minor wound, she was wounded fatally in the scheme she concocted to steal cocaine and money from a drug dealer.
The victim's nephew, Vincent Daniels, was convicted and sentenced yesterday in Lucas County Common Pleas Court for his involvement in the Aug. 1 shooting at a duplex she owned at 348 Batavia.
Prosecutors said Mrs. Daniels had hatched a plan to rob a man of drugs and money at the duplex. They said the 35-year-old property owner enlisted the help of Daniels and possibly others to rob the drug dealer of a large amount of cocaine.
But instead of a flesh wound in the shoulder as intended, the bullet went into her chest."
"Mr. Carder said Daniels told a witness after the botched robbery that he was in the house and it was her idea that she would suffer a minor wound to make it appear realistic.
Prosecutors believe Daniels was one of two masked gunmen who burst through a back door about 3 PM while Ms. Daniels and the man were doing the drug transaction.
One of the intruders chased the man through the house, but he escaped by jumping through a living room window in the front of the duplex. Ms. Daniels was taken into a bedroom by the other gunman and shot. The intruders fled the house, leaving the money and cocaine behind.
Police responding to a 911 cal about a person shot found Ms. Daniels in the duplex. She died a short time later in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center."
