Let's see here, we have an elevator hydraulic system leaking, so we go under the elevator car to fix it without securing the car. What, pray tell, did Mr Fix-it think would hold the car off of him if something went wrong, which it did. The hydraulics hold it up, and if you relieve the hydraulic pressure, gravity takes over, and things tend to drop quickly. Keep your eyes on this guy in the future!

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A local church member is in serious condition after he was trapped Saturday underneath a 1-ton elevator.
Innis Palmer was attempting to fix an elevator at the Zion Lutheran Church when he became trapped.
"When we got there, it appeared that he had been working on the elevator when the hydraulic system gave way," Columbus Battalion Fire Chief Doug Smith said.
With little room to maneuver, firefighters needed just the right person to execute the rescue.
"The rescue personnel determined that we probably needed a guy that was thin enough to fit down in the crack that led down to below the elevator," firefighter Bryan Sullivan said. "I was nominated for that."
Palmer was rescued after almost an hour. He was taken to Grant Medical Center, where he underwent surgery. He is listed in serious condition.
"I had to kind of straddle him and get pressure on (his) cut and notice what was going on around me to make sure if something were to give above me, I had somewhere to dive," Sullivan said.
Smith said Palmer had some knowledge about hydraulic systems and was trying to repair a leak. Sullivan said the man helped him get the elevator fixed during the rescue.
"The patient was actually very alert for the nature of his injuries," Sullivan said. "He was kind of leading me through everything I needed to do. He did a great job. He was very brave."
