Till Death do us Part
Biding time after lunch, a building worker was killed by a fish he captured earlier which got stuck in his throat.
The incident took place in the sewer of Pantai Indah Kapuk housing complex at North Jakarta, Indonesia. Wantik (36), a building worker from Malang, East Java, was killed with mouth spilling fresh blood resulted from fin of fish stuck in his pharynx. The nearby police station sent his body to RSCM, the main hospital of Jakarta.
According to Sukarjo (42) from Ngawi, East Java, Wantik's supervisor in that elite housing complex project, having had their lunches, a number of his workers postponed getting back to work due to shortage of cement.
“That chance was used by Wantik, Kabul, Boniran, and some others to catch fishes in the sewer of 1 meter* deep near our working area,” said he. Minutes later, he continued, some workers was startled by Kabul and Boniran exiting the sewer, shouting for help.
“After inspected, Wantik was found gasping whilst gripping his throat. When his mouth was opened, it turned out that in the upper part of his throat was a fish struggling its way in,” he said.
Wantik was choked by his catch. It turned out that while both of his hands busily chasing others, he bit the one fish he caught. That moment, the fish fought for its freedom and got in the way of Wantik’s life.
*Translator’s note: The water level in original text is 2 cm.
It should be around 1 m to force one to keep something at his mouth whilst he can still hunch his back and manouver his hands to catch fish.
