Deaf man who walked on tracks killed by train
A 23-year-old deaf man was killed Thursday night when he was hit by a train while walking on some tracks in Channelview, Harris County sheriff's officials said.
The victim, whose body was pulled under the train, still had not been identified by fingerprints Friday. Authorities said he lived in the residential neighborhood where the accident happened.
The incident happened at 6:15 p.m. as the man was walking eastbound on the tracks in the 15500 block of Avenue C and was hit from behind by a Union Pacific train. He was not at a railroad crossing at the time.
The man was known to frequently walk along railroad tracks, and because he was deaf, his family had concerns about his doing so, sheriff's deputies said.
