It was a daredevil stunt that cost a Phoenix teenager his life.
Jeremy Cole, 19, was a pretty typical kid, who loved life and loved taking chances.
"When your son leaves and says 'I love you,' you expect to see him again," said Barbara Cole.
Cole and her husband, Dan, describe Jeremy as compassionate, vibrant and full of life.
On Saturday, however, that love of excitement led to tragedy near the intersection of Third Avenue and Bell Road when Jeremy decided to switch positions with the passenger by climbing over the top of the car.
Police say Jeremy was part way out of the window when his friend, 19-year-old Chris Snide, touched the brake, sending him onto the pavement headfirst. Jeremy never woke up.
"It was a mistake. It was Jeremy's choice. He was being a typical teenager," they said.
The Coles don't blame the would-be driver and say they want others to learn from their son's risk-taking.
