Wrong End

I am a memember of a rescue team working with Alpine type search and rescue. During one rescue we were called by a hysterical caller into one of the restricted (off limits by the parks authorities) areas for mountain climbing or abseiling (sliding down ropes). When we arrived at the spot we found a body covered with a rope at the bottom of the cliff. It turns out that a group of friends had gone abseiling with only one of the group having any idea of what he was doing. When they arrived at the point they wanted to descend (a cliff of 75 or so meters height) the "informed" one made the appropriate knots and security devices for the descent. The first friend descended the rope with his friend giving him protection by a second rope. As he pulled this rope back up to prepare to help the second friend apparently the second friend wanted to help by tying himself into the rope to be prepared for the descent. A good plan, the only problem was that he tied himself to a rope that was not anchored. As he approached the cliff edge I am sure that when he sped over the edge he finally realized that it was not a good idea. It takes several seconds to fall 75 meters. We still had to help the third friend down from the cliff since he no longer had the rope that had fallen with the "diver".

Maybe Toss: Other
I've had some training in military mountaineering and have rappelled (which is what I assume that Anonymous means by "abseilling) down 100+ ft cliffs. I'd have to have a lot more information (from someone with a better grasp of English) before I'd give this a thumbs up - too confusing as written.

Could be good if rewritten to eliminate some of themore intimidating technical language.

Maybe Toss: Lacks Excellence
dangerous activities, poor training. Explanation too technical to be amusing.

Neutral: Lacks Excellence
An untrained person in a dangerous situation made a mistake. Not a case of poor judgement so much as inexperience.
