Racoon Revenge

2003 Reader Submission
Pending Acceptance

A man from my hometown of Merom, Indiana was racoon hunting to train his dogs.

After a while he could hear his dogs had tree'd a racoon and he went to investigate. He found that they had tree'd it up a electrical power utility pole and it was sitting at the top of the pose. He didn't want to shoot the racoon because he wanted his dogs to kill it so he took out his tree climbers from work and climbed the pole with his shotgun in hand to poke at the racoon and knock it off the pole. When he was up near the racoon he nudged it with the shotgun and the racoon tried to get away by grabing the powerline.

That caused the high voltage power to jump to the gun and through the man which was straddling the pole and the lightning ground wire running down it. The result knocked him off the pole but did not kill him. After many operations, he has spent the remainder of his life in a wheel chair and has no private parts. I don't remember if the racoon died or not.

Definitely Keep: Darwin Award
Has a certain UL quality, so I would try to confirm, but better than your usual power line story.

Sounds ULish, but if the ref pans out, it fits the criteria.
