I'm not claiming authorship of this but saw it on the Australian Associated Press newswire and thought it had to be a Darwin Award nominee. What follows is the exact AAP news report. (I believe the AAP report was taken from an AP story.)
ASIA: Challenger drowns after breath-holding game in Cambodia Cambodia Drown
PHNOM PENH, Sept 1 AP - A Cambodian man who challenged friends to an underwater breath-holding competition dived into a pond and drowned after a beer-drinking session, a newspaper reported today.
Chan Vanharin, 23, was drinking with friends at his home Friday afternoon on the outskirts of the capital before he drowned, according to the country's largest-circulation daily newspaper, Rasmei Kampuchea (Light of Cambodia).
When he didn't surface after more than a minute, his friends entered the water and found him unconscious 20 minutes later. He was pronounced dead on arrival at a local hospital, Rasmei Kampuchea said.
