While working on my house electrical lines, I actually had 3 chances to remove myself from the gene pool. Sadly, God must have appreciated the humor in it all and allowed me to share my experience with others.
While working on the electrical lines in my basement one day, I decided to remove an outlet without shutting down the fusebox. Now the fusebox was located in the cieling of all places, and required a stepladder to reach it. It's door swung down after releasing a safety catch.
Thinking that I could just bypass basic safety procedures, I began unscrewing the outlet with one hand on the shaft of the screwdriver. The screwdriver slipped out, and conveniently jammed into the main wires, sending vibes of 120 volt love into my body. My convulsions jerked me free however, and I stumbled back into a tool shelf, which prompty tipped and sent powersaws, drills, and other heavy object raining down on me.
Scraped, bruised, and stunned, I collected my wits and decided that maybe I was wrong in neglecting to shut off the fuse box. I then walked over to the fuse box, climed a stepstool and released the safety catch-without holding the fusebox door in position.
The 5 lb. wood door quickly swung down and smacked me in the face, breaking my nose and knocking me off the stepladder onto the concrete floor.
Now I was mad. I grabbed the nearest object-a crescent wrench and whipped it at the fusebox, which ricoched off the open door into the basement window, shattering it and sending shards of glass all over the basement floor. Mind you I was also barefoot at the time...
Still stunned from the blow of the fusebox door, I began walking back to the fusebox and quickly discovered how much glass was scattered on the floor.
After bandaging my feet, cleaning my various scrapes and minor cuts, and stopping the blood flow from my nose, I called it a day.
