On 08-24-02, at approximately 2115 Hours, the Placer County Sheriff's Department responded to a reported explosion with injuries at a residence on Hide-Away Loop in the town of Alta.
An investigation revealed that the resident, Larry A. Ross (38), had filled a 5 gallon metal can with acetylene gas with the intention of making a "noise making device/bomb." While filling the can with acetylene gas it ignited, causing the metal can to explode. Mr. Ross was struck in the head with a large piece of the metal can, resulting in a serious head wound.
r. Ross was transported by helicopter to Sutter Roseville Medical Center for treatment. Mr. Ross did not survive his injuries and was pronounced dead at 0240 Hours on 08-25-02. Submitted on 08/25/2002
