cCANDLESS, Pa. -- A 48-year-old Bellevue man died after a Thursday morning explosion in McCandless, WTAE's Sheldon Ingram reported.
Robert Schweiger suffered smoke inhalation in a fire at his mother's home, according to the Allegheny County coroner's office. The death was ruled an accident.
Investigators believe Schweiger was mixing flammable liquids in the garage while smoking a cigarette. The blast apparently threw Schweiger, who was found lying on the grass outside.

Explosion at McCandless house kills man

A 48-year-old man was killed in an explosion in a garage at a house on Montclair Avenue in McCandless this morning.
Police Chief Gary Anderson said police received a call around 10 a.m. They found that a "sustained accelerated fire" occurred in a 2-foot area of the garage, which contained gasoline cans.
The victim was identified as Robert Schweiger, and the Allegheny County coroner's office said he died of smoke inhalation. His death was ruled an accident.
He is the brother of Larry Schweiger, president and CEO of the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy.
