Exploding Car

I was visiting my dad in Gratis, OH. one weekend. I had walked up the hill to the gas station. On the way back it looked like my dad's back yard was on fire. So I ran back to the payphone, called my brother, and asked him if anything in the back yard was aflame. He said it wasn't.
When I arrived back at home, I realized that it was one of the neighbors. It was a boy I had gone to school with.
No one would ever accuse him of being bright.
He had tried to cut the gas tank off of a car using a blowtorch. I asked him after the fire department left why he did it. He said that he had drained the gas out of the tank before attempting to cut it off the car.
Apparently he never realized that traces and fumes of the gas would still be in the gas tank. Submitted on 08/20/2002
