Wife a speed hump
August 01, 2002
LONDON: An elderly couple were recovering in neighbouring hospital beds yesterday after the husband had a heart attack when he discovered he had twice run over his wife.
Police said Alex Ranson, 85, apparently hit his 84-year-old wife Olive as he reversed his Skoda out of their drive in Stanhope in northeast England.
Thinking he had struck a rock, Mr Ranson then drove forward then reversed again, running Mrs Ranson over a second time and breaking her leg.
Authorities at University Hospital of North Durham said the couple were both recovering satisfactorily in hospital yesterday.
