KITE BOY
2003 Reader Submission
Pending Acceptance
Mr Rew, aged 29, purchased a 15.5 metre kite for his new found hobby of kite surfing. However he was too excited to wait until he made it the sea to try it out and so stopped off at a friends farm in Gloucestershire, England, to try it out.
Mr Rew and his companion, Sven, attached one end of a 75 ft length of rope to his Ford Focus and the other to a dinghy harness which he had alrerady put on. Mr Rew then clipped the kite lines onto the front of the harness whilst his companion released the 15.5 metre kite.
At that moment a gust of wind swept across the farm, picking up the kite and Mr Rew until the rope was tight and Mr Rew was directly above his car.
At this point, he tried to fly the kite slowly back down to land, however, a further gust blew his kite down quicker than he anticipated, slaming him 37 feet down onto the ground knocking him out, breaking 2 ribs, puncturing and then collapsing his lung. Submitted on 07/30/2002
