This is a true story about some university (college for the USA) students in 1965.
As with most students, New Zealand students are not too rich after graduation. One group had no money to buy booze for the post-capping party. This was farly bad. They came up with a novel idea to get some cash.
At the time, a section of busy Auckland road near the campus was being dug up and worked on. Most of the workers were Maori and Samoans, BIG men. The students went up to them and said "Some students are going to dress up as cops and arrest you for a prank tomorrow." They then went to the police department and said " Some students are going to dig up a section of Prince's street as a prank tomorrow."
The next day there was pitched battle on Prince's street. The workers were calling in help from relatives down the road, and the police were calling in riot squads from all over Auckland. Combatands from both sides were hauled off to jail or hospitals. The students got the whole thing on tape.
Three days later, the footage turned up on the local news. The student council got a call from the police chief, wanting to know how it all occured, and the students had enough money to have a splendid capping party.
Ok, so nobody got sterilised or killed, but it`s true. Submitted on 07/26/2002
