I'm not sure if this qualifies for a Darwin, as the man is still alive (for now), and his reproductive status is not mentioned (they say that chicks dig scars, but this might be a bit much!), but it certainly demonstrates the same complete lack of foresight and common sense displayed by many of the winners.

Bizarre stunt lands Whistler man in hospital
VANCOUVER (CKNW) — Squamish RCMP are investigating a bizarre stunt that landed a 23-year-old Whistler man in hospital with critical burns over the weekend.
Staff Sgt. Cliff Doherty says the man tried to drive a snowmobile through a nine-metre wall of fire at an outdoor party Saturday night.
"Unfortunately when the snowmobile and the rider went through the fire, both the snowmobile and the rider caught on fire," Doherty said. "He suffered extensive burns to most of his body."
Doherty says other party-goers had offered to videotape the stunt.
The man was wearing no protective gear whatsoever.
It is not known whether any charges will be laid. The man's name has not been released.
The man is in critical but stable condition at Vancouver General Hospital.
p.s. (so this is what snowmobilers do in the summer!) Submitted on 07/23/2002
