"Tacoma Man Seriously Hurt in Parachute Junp off Bridge
Kid Valley - A Tacoma man new to the extreme sport of parachuting off fixed structures seriously injured himself when he parachuted off the wrong bridge east of Castle Rock.
Todd Pelissier, 22, is being treated at Legacy Emmanuel Hospital and Health Center in Portland for injuries to his head, lung and spine.
David Bodine, Cowlitz County undersherrif, said Pelissier dropped less than 100 feet from the Toutle River Bridge, but meant to parachute from the Hoffstadt Creek Bridge, which is 370 feet above the Toutle River. The two bridges are approximately nine miles apart on State Route 504, about 20 miles east of Castle Rock.
Bodine said Pelissier's chute deployed, but that the drop from the Toutle River Bridge wasn't high enough for it to stop the fall. Bodie said this was the first jump for Pelissier, who bought the parachute on the internet and packed it himself."
Note: This fellow might die, making him eligible, or maybe he just won't be able to reproduce due to spinal injuries. Would that make him eligible? Submitted on 07/17/2002
