A snakebitten Duluth man's condition deteriorated to critical after he suffered an allergic reaction Sunday to anti-venom flown from the Milwaukee County Zoo the nearest source to St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth, Minn., authorities said
David M. Anderson's highly venomous (and illegal) pet Egyptian cobra, which he mail-ordered as an egg two years ago, sank its teeth into the flesh between Anderson's left thumb and index finger twice Saturday. So Anderson, who has no phone in his house, walked over to a neighborhood bar, announced what happened and ordered a beer, Duluth police officer Shana Harris said. People at the Limit Bar called for help.
The 43-year-old was taken to St. Mary's, where his condition seesawed from serious to fair to critical. He remained unconscious and in critical condition throughout Sunday, said a St. Mary's representative who declined to comment further.
