Donut tire, speeding, and rain

Robert Turner was a standout soccer player who would have made Satellite High's varsity team this fall, and Jeffrey Kinnick a New Jersey transplant who loved R&B music and played junior varsity football.
With the two Satellite High students Tuesday morning was Aaron Greer-Jones, a former teen model whose family had moved to Brevard County thinking it would provide a safer environment than urban South Florida.
Their trip ended when their car, traveling at more than 100 mph, careened off a rain-slick construction zone on U.S. 1 and slammed into a pine tree, police said.
The impact sliced the vehicle into three pieces; all three youths were killed. It would be daylight before they were found.
Neither 16-year-old Kinnick, 17-year-old Turner nor 18-year-old Greer-Jones were wearing seatbelts. Investigators do not believe the safety feature would have saved their lives, however, even if they had.
"Speed will be a factor in this accident," said Cmdr. Ron Bell, spokesman for the Melbourne Police Department. "The vehicle also had a space saver spare tire on its right rear. The speeds for those differ with the manufacturer. In this case, the tire wasn't designed to go over 50 mph."
