"Train Severs Arm of City Escapee"
Journal Staff Report
A man who escaped police custody Thursday apparently had his arm severed by a train near Downtown, police said.
The man was found near the Ice House, and a firefighter located his right arm in the parking lot, a city fire department spokesman said.
The main escaped about 9 p.m. and ran toward the Ice House in handcuffs, the spokesman said. A train was passing nearby. Authorities believe that the man, whose name was not available, tried to cut the cuffs as the train passed.
He was taken to University of New Mexico Hospital where he was in serious condition. Submitted on 06/28/2002
