This is from KATV in Little Rock regarding a fatal crossing accident
this morning involving the Texas Eagle, AMTK 21. Apparently, the
gates were down and the lady was talking on a cell phone when she
crashed through the lowered gates and the 75mph Eagle hit the car.
"Little Rock - Another fatal accident at home and a cell phone may
be to blame. Police say 44-year-old Wanda Tappin was talking on her
cell phone when she was killed Monday morning. She drove into the
path of an Amtrak train. It happened just after 8am near the Old
ann Road area in Little Rock. A guardrail came down signaling a
train was passing, but police say Tappin kept going.
(Sgt. Terry Hastings/LRPD) "She drove through the guard arms. The
guard arms are busted they're lying beside the railroad tracks. She
drove through the guard arms directly into the path of the train.
All the witnesses say she was using a cell phone at the time of the
accident."
The Amtrak train was travelling at 75 miles per hour when the car
was hit. It pushed Tappin's car about a quarter of a mile down the
track. The 144 passengers and 11 crewmembers aboard the train were
not injured."
