A Far-Southside man was killed early this morning after hanging out of a moving car, officials said.
The Marion County Sheriff's Department was called to the scene of the deadly accident around 2 a.m. in the 8300 block of Siear Drive.
Jason Morgan, 25, of the 2300 block of Appleton Drive was found dead at the scene, said sheriff's Sgt. Jan Kistler.
Sometime early this morning or late Sunday night, Kistler said, Morgan was a passenger in a 1988 Chevy driven by Daniel Hook, 21.
organ was leaning out of the car and his head struck a light pole.
Hook, also of the 2300 block of Appleton Drive, drove on and called everyone but 911, Kistler said.
organ's father ended up calling the Indianapolis Police Department and sheriff's deputies. When deputies arrived at the scene, they found Morgan's body and Hook, who had returned to the scene on foot.
Alcohol played a role in the accident, Kistler said, but because of the time delay, the Sheriff's Department was not able to get a specific blood alcohol level.
Hook is being held on preliminary charges of failing to stop at an accident that resulted in a death.
