Deadly Denial of Use
2003 Reader Submission
Pending Acceptance
While visiting Canada's capital, I came across an apparent Darwin Award candidate from WWI. I've included links to actual pictures I took of the cause of death.
From the plaque:
"German 77mm Gun From Vimy Ridge"
"This gun was taken by Canadian troops during the victorious attack on Vimy Ridge. The German gun crew, to deny the use of the gun to the advancing Canadians, had deliberately destroyed their gun by exploding a reversed shell in the muzzle. The crew did not escape, however, and were found dead around the gun when it was taken".
