CHICAGO -- A 40-year-old man died Saturday night after he fell from the roof deck of his Gold Coast apartment building and was impaled on a fence, police said Sunday.
David Teaburg, of the 1200 block of North Astor Street, was on the roof of his eight-story building drinking champagne with a female companion about 7:42 p.m. when he tried to leap onto a deck 5 feet below and slipped, according to Chicago police and a spokesman for the Cook County medical examiner's office. "He told the woman he was going to get more wine," said police spokesman Carlos Herrera. "He apparently tried to jump down to another level and lost his footing."
It was unclear whether alcohol was a factor in the fall. An autopsy Sunday ruled the death an accident. Police are still investigating, Herrera said.
